FR 26 DEZ 2008 - WERK II, LEIPZIG, DE
Yesterday
was just beautiful, nothing more, nothing less! Thank you! Our show was
just fantastic and we had a lot of fun... Though we all had to leave
our christmas dinner at home it was more than worth it! First i was a
little pissed because our great inflatable Santa Claus didn't work, but
nontheless it was just good to see so many familiar faces once again.
We hope you liked our little presents... So, we wish you a happy new
year! We'll see what 2009 will bring...
TH 18 DEC 2008 - STUDIO FREDMAN, GOTHENBORG, SE
Andre
slept in the studio yesterday because Sebastian and Riechtor snorred
too loud for him. But as soon as he wanted to sleep Fredrik came in and
wanted to work on something for his new DREAM EVIL album... So, no
sleep for the moment.
Today
it was like yesterday and because we almost finished all the songs
yesterday we knew that we hadn't a lot to do today. So we took it very
easy today and talked more than we mixed. Everything was very relaxed
and we were done by 4pm. So we started our way back home but not
without stopping at the IKEA to buy some cheap stuff and vegan sweets.
Drive was OK and i was happy to be in my bed very soon...
WE 17 DEC 2008 - STUDIO FREDMAN, GOTHENBURG, SE
As
we came here yesterday at 9pm Fredrik played us the first mix of one
song and even though i thought it couldn't get better than the Rough
Mix it just blew me away! Everything sounded even clearer and finer and
not until now the whole thing sounded really finished! And of course it
punched you in the face. We then already tried some stuff but there was
really not much to do, because Fredrik (who worked on the album for a
week now) did make a great job! So we went into our apartment, cooked
us a nice soup and wanted to go to bed as we saw the WII and realised
there was Super Mario 3 on it! So we had to play almost the whole
night...
This was the reason why it was kind of hard to get out of bed today.
But we got up and Fredrik introduced us to his assistant Hendrik. Well
and then we sat in the studio and said what we wanted to do on this or
that part of a song. But it was far away from hard work. Fredrik and
Hendrik are Pros and so everything worked automatically. The two are
really strange guys, especially Fredrik is joking around the whole day
and i have to admit that i believed he is a bit crazy in the beginning,
but he knows excactly what he is doing and is a really nice guy! It is
strange to work with the guy who made some of our favourite
Metal-records and worked with bands like AT THE GATES, OPETH, DIMMU
BORGIR or IN FLAMES. Of
course after cooking we played again and now it's time to go to bed...
TU 16 DEC 2008 - SOMEWHERE
We
are on our way to Gothenburg, Sweden today to sit around and watch
Fredrik mix our record... I think we'll not have to do too much.
TH 11 DEC 2008 - SU 14 DEZ 2008
BERLIN, DE - RIGA, LV - RAKVERE, EE

ZURICH, CH
Unfortunately
i didn't find the time to write some words on our little trip until
now. Everything went on so fast, there was so little time and i had no
notebook with me. But i have a very good memory so i will tell you the
sweet little story now. On Thursday my night ended at 1am in the
morning after incredible 2 hours of sleep. At this point i remembered
why it is so very impractible to fly if the nearest airport is 3
hours driving away. We took our stuff and started in the direction of
Berlin at 2am in the morning. We arrived there at 5am and the first
thing Riechtor and me did was eating some french fries. As we finally
could check in i realised why flying is so bad for the second time:
people at the airport treat you like shit! Take off your belt! Go
there! Wait! Go! Faster! And so on... Well, at some point we sat in
that fucking machine and went off over the clouds. Yeah! The flight was
very easy and after 2 hours we already landed in Riga. There we were
picked up right away and been brought to our hotel, which was very
nice! And there is no irony when i say this! When i'm really honest i
must tell you that i was afraid our hotelrooms could be the same as
those in Moscow where i used all my towels to cover the bed so i could
lie there without getting in danger of dying from uncureable diseases!
This hotel was really really nice and it should turn out that our
hotels will get better and better on this trip! The bad thing was that
we never had longer time than a few hours to stay in the hotel. So now
we slept for three hours and than friving to the club by taxi. There
everything was really perfect except for the show maybe. Nick the Stick
just had three cymbals and some other things went wrong too. But fuck
that! Everything else was brilliant. After the show we had about 5
hours to sleep in the hotel before it would go to Rekvere in Estonia
the next day by bus. This drive was really good because you could see a
lot of the beautiful landscape. We arrived at the Green Christmas
Festival at about 2pm and there everything was perfect again. We
instantly had a very nice girl who took care of us the whole day. It
was a lot of good food and also the equipment for our show was very
good. But the best was the hotel again. A brand new Spa-Hotel and we
could use everything, but: we were there at 9pm and the wellnessarea
closed at 10pm. So we ran into our rooms, got undressed, grabbed our
bath robe ran through the hotel again and went into the sauna. After
that we went to the adventure pool for a few minutes and after that we
had 2 hours to take a shower, sleep and get our stuff together. So,
again to less time for the great hotel. Well, 1am the bus waited to
bring us to the airport in Tallinn. Our driver kicked us out there and
we stood infront of closed dors! And it was fucking cold out there. Our
roadie didn't realise the cold because he made himself feel warm from
inside. At some point somebody let us in and we could sleep a sometime
very comfortable on some seats. Wow! The same shit at the check-in as
always, then a short flight to Copenhagen. We had to walk there all
across the building and then we went on to Zurich! There everything
went well too and we go to another perfect hotel. There i stay away
from the sauna and go to bed directly, because here we also have 2
hours at most! I wake up after one hour because i felt like cooking in
my fucking room, so i go outside and wait for some friends who would
come to the show this night. The show, the food, the backstage room...
everything was just perfect but the best thing was that so many good
friends turned up at the show. Some of them we didn't see for a much to
long time others you can just not see often enough. So it was really
nice spending some time with them all. But at some point i was just
exhausted and wanted nothing more than going home! The weekend was
really hard. At most 10 hours sleep in more than 4 days! But after all
i think we all had a lot of fun. So, on Tuesday we start in the
direction of Sweden...
SA - 29 NOV 2008 - NORDHAUSEN, DE
While
Markus is surely arranging our recordings for the long trip to Sweden,
i use my free day to praise him and his studio again. It was very
special for us to work together with Markus and our time in the studio
was very nice, though Mellrichstadt will not go down in history as the
city where you easily can find vegan food. Somehow we did find
something to eat every day and the good thing about it was, that our
lunch-break didn't take too long. Also our rooms in Stockheim were very
nice, so that there is nothing left to say than: thank you! But Markus,
you need a new toilet! It's OK to walk across the yard to reach
the toilet and it is also OK that it felt like winter inside. But the
toiletpaper was horrible! Toiletpaper with little creepy pumpkins on it
and with the scent of pumpkin is too much! You couldn't get rid of this
stench for the rest of the day! But even if there was no toilet at all
the Klangschmiede is the best studio in Europe! Amen...
FR - 28 NOV 2008 - KLANGSCHMIEDE STUDIO E, MELLRICHSTADT, DE
The
last day has arrived and all i can say is: EVERYTHING WAS SO NICE! Now
everybody is a little bit sad because the beautiful time in the studio
is over. Therefor we have
now an great (and almost finished) album in our bags and are glad to
spend a litte time at home. As always right before the end, today was
the most stressful day. After few hours of sleep (Andre and me went to
see an old german punk band yesterday in Leipzig) working started very
early for the last time. There were still some little things to do and
we had to be done by noon because Markus needed some time to create a
first rough mix for the journalists who were set to visit us at 3pm. We
went buying a harddrive and as we returned there were already the
people
from Century Media there who came to supervise the studiovisit by the
press. And little time later the spearhead of the european metal press
arrived at the beautiful Klangschmiede. I have to admit that i hate
such events, but as i write these lines now i have to say that this day
was a lot of fun. Of course i felt very uncomfortable as we all sat
together and listened to the record as a whole for the first time. I am
not very good in such things and i always feel very useless... After
the listening was the interview-marathon and as the grand finale there
was a very extensive dinner at a beautiful local in beautiful
Mellrichstadt. At half past 10pm it was time to say goodbye to the
Studio E and Markus and with one tear in the eye we headed back home.
TH - 27 NOV 2008 - KLANGSCHMIEDE STUDIO E, MELLRICHSTADT, DE
Ah, it's almost over! We are all
very sad that this is over tomorrow. Everything was good and went
extremely well. By now we are just happy that everything is done.
Finally. We recorded the last two songs with vocals today and did some
fine tuning on the solos and effects. And now it is evening and
everything is almost over... Tomorrow will be a little hectic again,
because some journalists will come here to take a look
WE - 26 NOV 2008 - KLANGSCHMIEDE STUDIO E, MELLRICHSTADT, DE
Everything works as always. Vocals
work very well and guitarsolos and stuff like that should also be no
problem. There is not very much happening. We work, we listen and
we are happy...
TU - 25 NOV 2008 - KLANGSCHMIEDE STUDIO E, MELLRICHSTADT, DE
All the overdubs are recorded
and three more songs are done with vocals. The last phase of the
recordings start now and the record comes more and more into shape.
With vocals the songs sound totally different and much more...
complete! Now is also the time when the good work starts: working
on details, arranging stuff and trying something new here and there and
just experiment on things.
MO - 24 NOV 2008 - KLANGSCHMIEDE STUDIO E, MELLRICHSTADT, DE
The new week starts with total chaos.
While our time at home it snowed almost the whole time. So, the morning
began with snow chaos on the streets of Nordhausen and the whole area
around. It snowed the whole night and as i stepped out of my house i
knew from the start that we will never be in Mellrichstadt on time. On
my way to the city a few cars slided along my way and the whole city
was one big traffic jam! And more and more snow... At some point we
actually started and on the first 50km things on the street were really
crazy. Black ice, trucks standing across the street and a lot of
traffic jams. Normally we need 2 hours to drive from Nordhausen to
Mellrichstadt. Today we needed more than 4 hours! But finally we
stranded here and started straight away. Overdubs and vocal recordings
were planned for today... and working overtime! When we left the studio
at about 9pm we already had 3 completely recorded songs with vocals.
Recording vocals is always fun and everthing went perfect today...
Almost!
FR - 21 NOV 2008 - KLANGSCHMIEDE STUDIO E, MELLRICHSTADT, DE
I am done. I recorded all the songs with
bass guitar today. So, we are very fine with the schedule. It was very
exhausting but it also was a lot of fun and i'm really happy to be done
now. The rest of the time will be used for vocals, overdubs, soli,
keyboards and gimmicks. We'll see how this works.
TH - 20 NOV 2008 - KLANGSCHMIEDE STUDIO E, MELLRICHSTADT, DE
I finally played something today. We are done
with the rhythm guitars and had even some time left to work on the
bass-sound. Finally i have a really good and strong sound while
recording. We tried different amps and everything goes through one
cabinet and one direct signal. That's exactly how i wanted to record on
past sessions but i never did. Why? Don't ask me... I really , really
don't know. It's a whole new feeling to reord with a decent sound,
almost like playing live. It will work out great i hope. I will start
recording tomorrow and i hope i will be finished tomorrow. We will see
and you will know very soon...
WE - 19 NOV 2008 - KLANGSCHMIEDE E, MELLRICHSTADT, DE
Spirits
were very good today. Everybody had a lot of fun and at some parts we
had to stop recording because of our laughter. Nevertheless i am very
surprised that recording the rhythm guitars works so fast, well and
easy! We did 4 songs today! That is really good! Markus is a really
nice guy and we all have a lot of fun. It's very nice to work with him.
Tomorrow we may already start setting up the bass-sound and than i can
start very soon! Cheers!
TU - 18 NOV 2008 - KLANGSCHMIEDE STUDIO E, MELLRICHSTADT, DE
Guitar
recordings are going on really well. We finished 3 songs today, so
there are not very much left. I don't do much more than listening and
playing SEGA and to be honest, after sometime both becomes boring. So,
everything is working well.
MO - 17 NOV 2008 - KLANGSCHMIEDE STUDIO E, MELLRICHSTADT, DE
The
weekend is over and it was really nice to be at home for a little
time... Monday, 10am: work starts again and we are all happy about
that! We started to record the first guitar-tracks today and that
meant that most of us had not very much to do. So, once again we spent
our precious time on playing good old Sega Master System II. Of course,
Nick The Joystick was on top from the start which meant that he beated
me very fast at Hockey and so i decided to watch him play
Alex Kidd. That's a good way to spend your time. Besides that we
also recorded two songs...
FR - 14 NOV 2008 - KLANGSCHMIEDE STUDIO E, MELLRICHSTADT, DE
Today
at noon we finally had all the drum-tracks recorded. We recorded 10
songs for the new record and one coverversion (we'll see where this
song will appear and when). So, Nick is through, this lucky bastard!
After lunch the motto for the rest of the day was: SETTING UP THE
GUITARSOUND!!! When i heard this i instantly had the urge to
throw myself out of the window because on recent recordings this always
meant endless guitar-noise and headache. Everybody (except the
guitarists and the producer) where totally fucked up after 5 hours and
where the guitarists heard some real sound-improvements to the rest of
us it sounded exactly like 2 hours before! But this should also change
this time. On the one hand neither Grundel nor Riechtor had the
ambitions to waste one whole day with noise and on the other hand it
already sounded fantastic after 1 hour of trying! I can't remeber the
last time we got such a great sound so fast. If this is because of
Markus who has a good ear for those things or if it is because of the
746 amps and 3721 cabinets we've tried i just don't know... and i
really don't care! The rest of the day was used for some fine-tuning
and some short test-recordings. And then there was weekend and i
arrived at home just in time for dinner! You can read more boring
studio-details here on monday. Until then: Stay brutal!
TH – 14 NOV 2008 - KLANGSCHMIEDE STUDIO E, MELLRICHSTADT,
DE
Oh shit, it’s the third day and i already don’t know what
else to write about. Nothing happened today what did not already happen
yesterday. Nick beats up his drumset, Markus records that and we listen to it. That
is our day, not very exciting, is it? Markus always has some really good ideas
and it is great fun to work on some songs. We now banned nine out of eleven
drum-tracks on tape, so 2 more tomorrow in the morning and the first par oft
the recording session is done. Now eating some fine dinner, watching some TV and
going to bed…
WE – 12 NOV 2008 - KLANGSCHMIEDE STUDIO E, MELLRICHSTADT,
DE
I slept like a dead one, though i found the mattress a
little bit too soft. Now the second day in the studio can begin and i think
everybody is really excited about that. Our working day begins at 10am and
Markus is already waiting. We start right away and everything works really well.
The second name for Nick the Stick isn’t „the machine“ without a reason and
therefore he has no problems playing his parts. 1pm is lunchtime with great
selfmade vegan Burgers. Well, besides that there is not so much happening. Nick plays
and plays and plays, we listen and talk shit. 7pm, work is over and Nick managed
to record 4 more songs. This guy is just perfect… Now it is 9.30pm and we watch
cheap german television. See you all tomorrow!
TU - 11 NOV
2008 – KLANGSCHMIEDE STUDIO E, MELLRICHSTADT,
DE
It’s
10.45pm and we didn’t sleep for over 40 hours after
we played some shows the last three days. There are some new things
i’ve
learned this weekend. First, that shows in Holland suck and second,
that you
get the best hotels at the smallest shows. But yesterday’s
show in Brugge,
Belgium was just great. We played with our friends from Caliban and
Born From
Pain and had a lot of fun. It was a pleasant evening with lots of fun,
a very
good dinner and a hell of a show. Straight after our gig we hit the
road and
drove seven hours back home where we arrived at 6 in the morning.
Everybody
felt and looked like shit. So, a few minutes at home, grabbing some
stuff and
off we went to Mellrichstadt. We somehow arrived there at noon and, as
always,
started working! The studio is cool, Markus is nice and everything
seems to fit
right. Some great weeks in the studio can begin… At the and
oft he day we
already had one drum-track captured and it feels fine to finally hear
the new
stuff with well-produced drums. Now, I’m ready to sleep. Good
night!
